The
most popular sport in Italy is soccer, although cycling
- with the famous Giro d’ Italia, a race that crosses
the country-, and bowls -a kind of bowling- is also very
popular. The 8,500 kilometres of coast that surrounds
Italy makes it one of the favourite destinies when it
comes to have holidays in the beach, besides to allow
the practice of all types of watersports. One of the best
places to practice diving is Sardinia, as well as the
Tremiti Islands -located in the Adriatic Sea-, and the
coasts of Toscana and Liguria. The fishing is very good
in Sicily, well known by its lobsters, and in the rivers
of the north of the peninsula, particularly in Umbria
and Toscana.
For those who prefer winter sports, the infrastructure
has been improved in the last years, putting the Italian
sites of ski at the same level of the ones of its neighbours
France and Switzerland. And if you are interested in playing
golf, there are first level courts scattered all over
Italy. The golf season specially long in the south, thanks
to its tempered weather.
