National
Gallery of Ancient Art
Located in the Palazzo Barberini, it was constructed by
Maderno on the lands of old Villa Sforza for Maffeo Barberini,
known as Pope Urban VIII. The decoration of the central
room is from Pietro da Cortona, who worked on the subject
of the Triumph of the Providence, a way to raise the glory
of the papal family. The collection includes works of
Giulio Romano, Raffaello Sanzio, Perugino, Gian Lorenzo
Bernini, Tiziano, Tintoretto, Caravaggio, Tiepolo, Hans
Holbein and N. Poussin, among others.
